Biography

Phuong Nguyen is a Professor, Associate Director, and Director of Graduate Studies in the School of Planning and Public Affairs at the University of Iowa. His 50+ peer reviewed articles study public finance and public policy. He is a co-editor of the journal Public Finance and Management and a nationally recognized researcher, obtaining the 2013 Distinguished Research and Development award from the International Association of Assessing Officers, the Jean Flanigan Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Association for Education Finance and Policy, and the 2022 Best Paper Award from the Midwest Public Affairs Conference. He ensures his students receive a strong education that grows their skills for future public careers, honored with the Curriculum Innovation Award from the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) in 2018 for his course Public Finance and Budgeting. Dr. Nguyen holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Syracuse University.
